Sonya Filman is a Toronto-based artist working primarily in print media. Drawing upon photographic archives, records of psychical research, and written testimonials, Filman explores the ideological influences and power dynamics that inform these authoritative modes of representation. Filman was the 2014/15 Don Phillips Scholar at Open Studio, and has previously held positions at the Blackwood Gallery and C Magazine. She is currently serving as the Interim Head of Membership and Facilities at Gallery 44, and as the Chair of the Open Studio Membership Committee. Filman is a Master’s Candidate in Fine Art at York University.
