Kaleena Stasiak studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, Ontario and at l’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France.  She has completed residencies at the School of Visual Arts in New York, New York and at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Kaleena has also participated in exchange programs at Atelier Graff and Atelier Circulaire in Montreal, Quebec.  Her work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, and Europe, and she is currently living and printing in Melbourne, Australia.

Kaleena’s subject matter is grounded in craft and “women’s work” of the 19th and 20th centuries.  She has an ongoing preoccupation with handmade household necessities such as quilts and doormats and their ability to reflexively represent the bodies that made them. Her work also calls into question the taboo nature of death in our society and the human need to create and attach meaning to inanimate articles in order to make sense of the world around them.  Kaleena seeks to present beauty in decay, joyfulness in the macabre and the charming absurdity of human nature.
