Sara Kelly has been the Associate Director at Open Studio since November 2008, where she is responsible for development and communications and has played a leading role in increasing revenues through grants, individual giving and events. She has a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from the University of Guelph—where she was on the Dean’s list and received the Warner-Lambert Canada Book-prize for Printmaking and the Heinz Jordan Memorial Scholarship in Printmaking—and an MFA from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (Dundee, Scotland), where she received a Faculty Postgraduate Scholarship. Sara participated in the inaugural Creative Youth Envoy, a cultural internship program initiated and administered by the City of Toronto and funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, which gave young Canadians opportunities to launch a career in the arts and culture sector in an international setting. During the program, Sara served as Information Officer at Cultural Enterprise Service in Cardiff, Wales, providing business support and mentoring for cultural practitioners and businesses. Subsequently, Sara worked in gallery administration and education at the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, and at CARFAC Ontario as Membership Coordinator and later Associate Director, where she implemented the organization’s first ever distance learning program and conceived of and spearheaded the Artist’s Dayplanner project. Sara has exhibited her artwork in Canada and the UK, works as a freelance copy editor, and has volunteered in community arts projects that worked with refugee claimant children and adults experiencing mental illness.
