Thank U, Next—27 Series
Rachael Dodgson’s artistic practice utilizes the traditional printmaking mediums of lithography and screenprint as a means to create colourful, bold, and rhythmic abstract imagery. Informed by her spontaneous gestures, Dodgson’s mark-making is an evolving language which translates subconscious thoughts centered around the concepts of mental health, perception, sexuality and identity, into a visual form.
Thank U, Next—27 Series features prints created in 2019, Dodgson’s 27th year, which explore new techniques of combining the (often opposing) printmaking methods of screenprint and lithograph. This new body of work aims to immerse the viewer in a visual language of texture, exploring the possibilities of printmaking as well as our complex and ever-shifting sense of identity.
What role does process and “making” play in uncovering the inner thoughts which direct our actions?
Rachael Dodgson is a Toronto-based artist working in the mediums of printmaking and installation. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors from Queen’s University in 2014 and has participated in several exhibitions, community arts projects, and residencies at printmaking studios in Montreal and Massachusetts.
Process-based, experimental, and spontaneous, Dodgson’s practice is driven to explore the possibilities of print media and the impact of abstract imagery on the viewer and artist.
