A Featured Exhibition in the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival. The Shape of the Middle is a response to the specific material parameters at the intersection of printmaking and photography.

Susan Cunningham elevates the gifts given to her by her students (she is an adult language teacher) by recreating them on paper four or more times their original size. They take on a monumental presence that honours the people who gifted them.

In Shift, Sally Ayre is working with fall specimens containing seeds, which will scatter to germinate new life cycles. Using a limited colour palette, translucent paper, and stitching, Ayre creates an enhanced environment for reflection.

This new body of work is a continuation of Cynthia Dinan-Mitchell’s surrealist botanical inspiration. The hand-painted screenprints reference the vanitas theme.
