Deadline Closed: September 16, 2020, 11:59 PM EST
A Project Space exhibition slot for March 26 – April 17, 2021, is available, and we would like to put forward this opportunity to propose a solo, or group exhibition, to artist members of Open Studio who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour).
We recognize the ongoing systemic barriers faced by artists from these communities, and that these barriers and biases have extended to experiences faced as members within Open Studio. We put forward this internal call as the first in a line of new endeavours as we work to diversify our programming, membership, board, and overall access to equity-seeking groups in the future. As part of the application process, a self-identification form is provided.
The Project Space is a juried exhibition space for which Open Studio artist members can apply to exhibit recent print work and related projects, both individual and collaborative. The Project Space welcomes experimentation and encourages artists to use the space as a testing ground for what print can be. Exhibitions and projects hosted in this space are rooted in the print process, or share its ethos (for example, in exploring multiples, layering, combinations of print methods) and incorporating other media.
Exhibition scheduling is programmed to coincide with exhibition dates in the main Open Studio gallery. Artist members will also be given a $500 honorarium for exhibition assistance.
- Please note that only current Open Studio artist members*, who identify as Indigenous, Black or as a Person of Colour, are eligible to be considered for this Project Space exhibition slot. As part of the application process, a self-identification form is provided.
