SUBMISSIONS CALL TO OUR GALLERIES: OCTOBER 25, 2022 (Applications will be accessible via the links below).
As part of Open Studio’s ongoing commitment to becoming a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive organization, we are excited to share that our next calls for residencies and exhibitions are directed to artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, and People(s) of Colour (BIPOC). This will result in an upcoming year of public programming (September 2023 – July 2024) that will celebrate and support the work of BIPOC creators working across print-based media. Open Studio is committed to providing an open and equitable platform for public programming that reflects innovative, non-hierarchical and cross-cultural approaches to contemporary printmaking by artists from diverse backgrounds and wide-reaching perspectives. Open Studio is dedicated to engaging and supporting all individuals and prioritizes applications from members of equity-deserving communities, including racialized persons: Black, Indigenous, People(s) of Colour (BIPOC); persons with disabilities, persons living with mental illness, and persons of all sexual orientations, and gender identities/expressions.

Most of our opportunities are open to the public, and some are specifically for our membership. If you want to find out how to become an Open Studio Artist Member, please contact us by email. - For the Main Gallery and Project Space: artists who have shown in a solo or duo exhibition at Open Studio must wait for at least one year before applying again. This would also apply if someone has received the Nick Novak or Emerging Artist residency, where a solo exhibition is included.
- The above would not affect inclusion in group exhibitions (three artists or more).
- Exhibiting on the Feature Wall does not affect eligibility to apply for a Main Gallery or Project Space exhibition.
- These criteria do not apply to offsite exhibitions or special calls outside the usual gallery programming.
- Board Members and staff members are not eligible to apply for exhibitions, scholarships or residencies during their term. (An exception would be made should an artist already be programmed and then move into a board/staff position).
From time to time, we may have additional calls for submissions for one-off exhibitions, fundraising events or another special programming.
