As a professional musician in the Western classical tradition, I have spent most of my artistic life adhering to certain necessary collective technical and expressive conventions which are not always my own. Since late 2014 I have been surprised and delighted to be exploring the art of printmaking, which is a genuine source of rejuvenation and liberation for me, revealing my defaults of artistic habit and offering renewed insight into what ‘playing’ really means.
I owe a debt of gratitude to Loree Ovens, Colin Savage, Kate Hawkins, and friends at Open Studio and the Heliconian for their generosity and support. For more information: http://www.alisonmelville.com
