Studio Updates – Oct 16, 2025
Hello all,
Two large changes at the studio: our discontinuation of rag laundering service and the re-opening of the lithography area!
Adjusted workflows regarding rags:
Screenprinting
White Cloth Rags – use as before. Wash, dry and reuse for as long as possible. When they become too soiled, they simply go into the garbage (as opposed to depositing them into the fire-safe container previously)
Intaglio
Removing oil-based inks, hard ground, soft ground, asphaltum: Disposable Blue Rags + SoySolv II (vs. Studio Cloth Rags + Mineral Spirits)
- Remove residue with water/Simple Green
- These blue rags should be disposed into the garbage.
Removing safe-wash inks: White Cloth Rags + Dish Soap + Water
- Rags can be washed, hung and reused
- Dispose in garbage if oversaturated
Removing Lascaux Aquatint (from airbrush): Disposable Blue Rags + SPRAY 9 -> GARBAGE BIN
Removing rosin aquatint: Disposable Blue Rags + Isopropyl alcohol -> GARBAGE BIN
Lithography (see below)
At long last, the lithography area is reopening. There are still some finishing touches to the Graining Sink that is forthcoming but it is basically functional. More details below:
Graining Sink:
- We’re all still adjusting to the exact size of this sink so there will be stones that are easier to grain than others. For stones with a measurement of 18” and above on the shorter side, some expert maneuvering will be required as there might be a slight overhang and you would need to rinse off half the stone, rotate it 180 degrees and then rinse off the other half
- Remains to be constructed / deployed:
- A more permanent solution to immobilizing the rollers that are currently simply secured by clamps
- Photolitho development is untested. There are trays located on top of the fire-safe cabinet in the solvent room that can be used, using the litho sink as your development station
Rags:
- We have discontinued our rag service. Please use BLUE SHOP TOWELS + MINERAL SPIRITS (dispose into FIRE SAFE BINs) for washing out the stone. For cleaning off the inking slabs, use RAZOR BLADE, SOYSOLV II, and then WATER/SIMPLE GREEN + BLUE SHOP TOWELS and these go into the GARBAGE BIN.
Roll-up slab:
- Until this area becomes busier, the FOREVER ACTIVE ROLL-UP SLAB will be suspended. Please put out as much ink as you need for your ROLL-UP and clean up the class when you’re finished
Plate supports:
- The LARGE/GRIFFIN plate support lives under the glass slab beside the PRAGA
- The MEDIUM/PRAGA plate support lives in the second shelf in the bank of storage against the west wall
Bisous,
Pudy
