Extended Artist Proof Sale Hours & Collecting Prints Talk
Date: December 8, 2016 | Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Didn’t make it to our Artist Proof Sale for the December 1 opening night? Join us for light refreshments, a studio tour, a brief talk on art collecting by Lee Petrie, Chair of Open Studio Board of Directors, and extended evening shopping hours for the Artist Proof Sale (to 8pm). The talk will be from 7 – 7:30 pm.
Lee Petrie, Chair of the Board of Directors at Open Studio, talks about her passion for print. Lee’s connection to printmaking began as a child, growing up with her parents’ art collection and learning lino and woodblock techniques in Saturday morning art classes at the Sarnia Public Library and Art Gallery. Lee’s childhood hobby became a career. After completing graduate degrees in art history and museum studies, Lee began working in public galleries – the Varley Gallery in Markham and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection – developing programs for adults and children. Since 2006, Lee has worked as a curator, at Toronto Pearson International Airport and now at the Living Arts Centre. Lee’s appreciation for print is informed by her experience as a curator, a developer of hands-on printmaking classes, a collector, and as an occasional printmaker. She will talk about her approaches to collecting and curating – both personal and professional – and offer tips for developing, curating and displaying one’s own print collection. Lee will share examples of artists in her own collection represented by Open Studio’s Print Sales Gallery,
