Process-based, experimental, and spontaneous, Rachael Dodgson’s practice is driven to explore the possibilities of print media and the impact of abstract imagery on the viewer and artist. Dodgson uses lithography and screenprinting techniques to create colourful and bold work. Informed by her spontaneous gestures, Dodgson’s mark-making is an evolving language that translates subconscious thoughts centered around mental health, perception, sexuality, and identity into a visual form.

Thank U, Next—27 Series features prints created in 2019, Dodgson’s 27th year, is a new body of work that aims to immerse the viewer in a visual language of texture, exploring the possibilities of printmaking as well as our complex and ever-shifting sense of identity. Dodgson asks, What role does process and ‘making’ play in uncovering the inner thoughts which direct our actions?

Rachael Dodgson is a Toronto-based artist working in the mediums of printmaking and installation. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors from Queen’s University in 2014 and has participated in several exhibitions, community arts projects, and residencies at printmaking studios in Montreal and Massachusetts.
